Kilimanjaro

The roof of Africa, the climb of a lifetime

Hikers on Kilimanjaro

THEKilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, peaking at 5895m above sea level. It is located in the northeast of Tanzania, on the border with Kenya. It is made up of 3 volcanoes: theShira (3962m), theMawenzi (5149m) and theKibo, which we climb up toUhuru peak (5895m).

There are several routes to climb it. We favor three: the wayMachame, the wayLemosho and the wayMarangu.
- The wayMachame is the most popular. The chances of success are high, the landscapes are splendid and it offers good acclimatization.

- The wayMarangu has the most infrastructure. We don't sleep in tents there but in huts. It is also the cheapest because it is the shortest. The ascent is done in 5 days, so acclimatization is less good and the chances of success lower.

- The wayLemosho also offers magnificent landscapes and good acclimatization. The advantage is that it is less busy than the other routes.

The ascent can be done all year round, although the periods when the climate is best are January, February and September. From March to early June, the rainy season can make the ascent more difficult, the same for the month of November. July and August are also a good time but it is the cold season in Tanzania. So there is something for everyone and of course let's not forget that the weather is always uncertain in the mountains.
